Samuel Kimathi and Lucy Njenga
Married for more than 20 years, the two have run a number of successful businesses in the Molo area. These included a chicken and dairy farming operation and a hotel/restaurant establishment. "We had good businesses at the local level, we were among the people with the good businesses," Lucy Njenga said. As Christians and Pstours however, Samuel and Lucy felt the call to serve the orphans and the less fortunate children in the Molo region.
While running their hotel and restaurant, Samuel and Lucy were regularly approached by orphans and street children needing food to eat. The call to serve these children grew in their hearts. Samuel and Lucy knew they couldn't run several businesses and also have the time to dedicate to the children in the region. "After a lot of prayer and of course waiting on God, we felt we wanted to serve the children full time ."
Samuel and Lucy made a decision to sell their personal property. They sold off the land and the businesses they had acquired over their 20 years together. The funds from these selfless sacrifices were used to build the school and to help employ teachers and other workers at the Chazon Children's Centre. At this point, they (and many hungry local children) were almost entirely dependant upon the funds received from volunteers and from well wishers around the world. 25% of the children are able to pay a small maintenance fee.
