Pastor Peter lead a church in Molo that was tragically burned down during recent tribal clashes. He was given a plot of land to rebuild his church which was also made into a restaurant - as neither he nor his wife had any means of support. The building (built of iron sheets) was not very secure and people were stealing food at night. One evening while closing the restaurant (it was late 10 p.m.) he noticed someone sleeping beside the wall. Pastor Peter thought it was one of the ones stealing food. He was about to send him away him away when the boy told him he was not stealing that he was a street kid and that he was sleeping there because he knew he was a pastor and because the other kids were beating him.

Pastor Peter took him inside and gave him some food. Eric told him that when the clashes were on his mother and brothers went away leaving him behind. Eric had to sleep in the street and eat whatever he could get. Eric was just 6 years old at the time. Eric was permitted to sleep outside the restaurant and in the morning Peter and his wife found he was still there. "We gave him food everyday for 6 months" Peter said "My daughter, son and Eric soon became good friends" "why do we leave Eric sleeping in the streets?" asked Peter's daughter. Peter and his wife decided to adopt him but it wasn't easy. The district officer told Peter not to get involved with the kid as he could be sick. They took him to the doctor as he looked very weak but the doctor told them that he was a healthy boy that just needed food and love.

Eric had lice so they had to burn all his clothes and buy new ones and buy a spray to clean the house. They were not able to pay the school fees for him so they talked to the chief of Molo and he wrote a letter saying that Peter and his wife were now the legal guardian's of Eric and that they could take him to a public school. They wanted to take him to Chazon where their other two kids were schooling but didn't have enough money to pay the fees so Eric went to a public school (very crowded). When Eric's mother returned to Molo , his new family feared that they my lose him. The boys mother took him for a time but after the most recent round of tribal clashes she was once again unable to take of him. Lucy and Samuel decided to take Eric in at the Chazen Children's Centre - requiring no fees.
